1. Welcome from the editor

Hi all, hope this newsletter is received in the manner it was sent ...in love and through God!!

Well, this month I wanted the topic to be aging and dying, but due to
no submissions, I'll just address it here. This subject came to mind
because my grandmother just turned 94. I was her caregiver for 6 yrs.
She is a truly great woman...STILL caring for her mentally retarded
65 yr. old son. I wish to dedicate this issue to her.

Family is very important, and so is parenting. God gave us children,
made us parents and grandparents, with responsibilities in mind. As
Noah passed on his faith, saving his family from certain death, so
must we pass on our beliefs.

I am grateful to my grandmom for all the hardships she has dealt
with, to my parents for raising me in their belief system, and I hope
one day all our children will see the benefits of our daily faith in
God.

To that end, please continue reading...this month we've got some neat
things to share with you about parenting and faith!

2. Book Review by Elissa Wahl
"Developing Godly Character in Children" by Beverly Caruso, Ken
Marks & Debbie Peterson.

Well, reading this book has renewed my parenting plan for my children.

This book is written a character per chapter, with each and every
chapter brimming over with information; key verses, hymns,
scriptures, bible facts, projects & activities and resources.

Some character trainings involved are: Wisdom, Loyalty, Brotherly
Love, Faith, Joy, Obedience, Responsibility and Grace.

This book spells it all out for you in easy and fun ways. All our
children will benefit from our reading and following of this book. It
is really geared for REAL children, not romanticized for some fantasy
holier-than-thou family. This is book that even beginning Christians
will clearly understand and reap benefits from.

This book ends with some great parent hints about setting goals,
disciplining, parenting styles, even offers a certificate that can be
given to the children praising them for showing certain Godly
attitudes.

I found this to be a GREAT parenting book and am really glad the
authors got together and wrote this it, in such a friendly, easy to
use manner. I am sure it will be a blessing to any who choose to read
it!!

3. We Need Your Help

Well, we are now in the editing process of the book and we have been
asked to include a section of quotes on some questions beginning
unschoolers might have. So we are turning to the experts, YOU, and
asking for your ideas!! Please respond to Unschoolr@aol.com or
Unschoolr2@aol.com , and thank you in advance!!!

Please answer these questions:
1. How do you motivate your kids?
2. Is it legal in my state?
3. How to record what we learn?

4. Contest: Share your kids wacky interests!!

Well, gang, Elissa's AOL fizzled out losing all the entries for this
contest. We are soo sorry and really regret we cannot announce the
winner right now, but please RESUBMIT your kid's wacky interests.
(And pray for the health of Elissa's computer!!!) We will share the
interests next month!! Thanks so much!

5. Announcement: New book by Elissa's pastor "Say Goodbye to
Whining, Complaining and Bad Attitudes" by Scott Turansky and
Joanne Miller

My church in NJ's goal was community outreach, specifically targeting
parenting solutions. To this end, my pastor and another wonderful
member have started doing parenting seminars and writing fabulous
books. Their work has reached MANY people in the community, and it is
how I found the church to begin with!!

Here's an excerpt from their pamphlet:

"Honor isn't just for children. In fact, this book offers many
practical suggestions for building honor in all family relationships.
You will learn five skills of honor-based parenting. Three roadblocks
that hinder sibling harmony and their corresponding honor-based
solutions.......A section is included at the end of the book
containing Family Together Times with activities for families to do
together to build honor."

I can tell you from personal experience, and from another of their
books, that honor is a valuable part of their philosophy and it is
integral to the family.

tips, or to order it, please go to:
